THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

The AC Milan 2004/05 season was a campaign of extraordinary highs and a heartbreaking European finale. Under Carlo Ancelotti, the Rossoneri boasted a star-studded squad featuring Paolo Maldini, Kaká, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf and Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko. After winning the Serie A title the previous season, Milan continued to compete at the highest level, finishing second in the league behind Juventus. Shevchenko remained a crucial figure in attack, combining intelligent movement with clinical finishing and ending the Serie A campaign as the club’s leading scorer. In Europe, Milan produced a memorable Champions League run, defeating Manchester United, Inter Milan and PSV Eindhoven on their way to the final against Liverpool in Istanbul. Milan raced into a 3–0 half-time lead, but Liverpool mounted an astonishing comeback to make it 3–3 before winning on penalties. Shevchenko had a chance to win the match in extra time, but his effort was saved by Jerzy Dudek. Despite the painful ending, the season remains one of the most unforgettable in Champions League history. This shirt represents a golden era of Milanese football and a team whose quality and dramatic European journey captivated supporters around the world.
