THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

The Manchester United 2022/23 season marked Cristiano Ronaldo’s second spell at Old Trafford, a campaign that would ultimately become the final chapter of his time with the club. Under manager Erik ten Hag, United began rebuilding their identity and returned to silverware by winning the Carabao Cup, their first major trophy since 2017. Ronaldo featured in the early stages of the campaign, scoring important goals in both domestic and European competition. In the Europa League, he found the net against Sheriff Tiraspol during the early stages of the campaign. However, his relationship with the club became increasingly strained, culminating in a high-profile interview in November 2022 and the mutual termination of his contract shortly before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Despite the turbulent ending, Ronaldo’s return had produced memorable moments, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Villarreal in the previous season’s Champions League. Featuring the Europa League and UEFA Foundation patches, this shirt represents a significant and eventful period in the career of one of football’s most iconic players.
