THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT
This Arsenal 2010/11 home shirt represents a memorable chapter in Robin van Persie’s career in North London. After overcoming persistent injury problems, the Dutch striker established himself as one of Arsenal’s most lethal goalscorers, showcasing his exceptional technique, precise finishing and trademark left foot. During the 2010/11 season, Van Persie scored 18 goals in the Premier League despite missing the opening months of the campaign through injury. His outstanding form continued into 2011, as he became a central figure in Arsenal’s attack and one of the most feared forwards in English football.
One of the season’s defining moments came against FC Barcelona in the Champions League, when Van Persie stunned Víctor Valdés with an audacious finish from an almost impossible angle, helping Arsenal secure a memorable 2-1 victory at the Emirates. However, the return leg became infamous when Van Persie was sent off for kicking the ball away after the referee had blown his whistle, in one of the most controversial red cards in Champions League history.
