THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

This Real Madrid 2000/01 home shirt represents the beginning of Luis Figo's controversial yet remarkable chapter at the Santiago Bernabéu. Having completed his sensational transfer from Barcelona in the summer of 2000, the Portuguese winger became the first Galáctico of Florentino Pérez's ambitious project, arriving in a world-record transfer that sent shockwaves throughout football. Despite the intense rivalry surrounding his move, Figo quickly silenced his critics with his exceptional dribbling, creativity and ability to change matches. During his debut season, he played a crucial role in Real Madrid's success, providing 14 assists in La Liga and helping the club secure the Spanish league title. His outstanding performances were recognised with the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2001, cementing his status as one of the finest footballers in the world. This season marked the beginning of Real Madrid's Galácticos era, as the club assembled a team of global superstars to dominate European football. Featuring the La Liga patch, this shirt captures a defining moment in football history and the arrival of a player whose controversial transfer became one of the most talked-about moves of all time.
