THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT
The Manchester United 2007/08 season was the pinnacle of Cristiano Ronaldo’s first spell at Old Trafford, as the Portuguese superstar established himself as the best player in the world. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United combined attacking flair with defensive solidity, forming a formidable team featuring Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Ryan Giggs and Nemanja Vidić. Ronaldo delivered a sensational campaign, scoring 42 goals in all competitions, including 31 in the Premier League, where he won the Golden Boot. His incredible performances helped Manchester United secure the Premier League title, finishing two points ahead of Chelsea. The season’s defining moment came in the Champions League final in Moscow, where United faced Chelsea in an all-English showdown. Ronaldo opened the scoring with a powerful header, and although Chelsea equalised, United eventually triumphed on penalties after a dramatic 1–1 draw. Ronaldo missed his spot-kick but was ultimately rescued by John Terry’s slip and Edwin van der Sar’s decisive save. At just 23 years old, Ronaldo won both the Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year later that year, confirming his arrival among football’s all-time greats. This shirt captures a truly iconic season in Manchester United history.
